First we want to give a huge Congratulations to DJ Perly. She brought it full proper in 2016 being the first female DJ to win both a regional title and vice national title in the DMC. This year she became the first female National DMC champion representing the United States. Rane, being the sponsor for the event, awarded her the brand new TTM72 mixer.

There has been plenty of recent speculation over what would be coming from the Washington based audio company. With their recent acquisition by InMusic, a lot of misleading information was being tossed around. We were happy to find out that R+D will be staying with Rane, while manufacture is going offshore.

On to the mixer. Except for the insanely long power cord, it seems business as usual compared to Rane's existing product line. To keep up with competition, Rane has added a few features present already on the Pioneer DJM S9. Mainly, the fx switches and placement of the RGB pads. We do see there is a screen in the middle of the mixer. Below is a button labeled touch FX, leading us to believe that this is a touch screen. Time will tell if this is going to drive the hardware or is a specific feature just for Serato. While we love all DJ Software here at BSR, throwing a Serato only feature on the mixer does kill any market for those that use RekordBox DJ for DVS.

There are a couple of bits which are really intriguing. Looking above the pads, we can see that you are able to easily switch between pad modes at the push of a button. This will make the transition between FX and hotcues easier during routines, giving you 3 movements per change.

All three faders are magnetic non-contact faders. Rane stuck with the design from the 62. There are not obstructions to catch your hand on. While some may not see this as important, the cue mix fader on the DJM S9 ,for example, is in the worst spot possible. One quick movement and you are cueing channel 2 out of nowhere.

The front panel has seen a slight update since the 62. The contour and reverse controls for channel faders and cross faders remain, but now we also have a deck swap option. This will switch the channel faders. A footswitch input has also been added. We have yet to see how the footswitch will be able to be assigned.

The back of the unit has seen a couple changes. You will notice that FX Send/Return has been removed. For some, this won't seem like a big deal. For others, that incorporate external FX processors (Pioneer RMX500, Guitar Pedals, etc.), this will be seen as a huge loss in functionality. There is reason to be excited about the back panel modification, though. There are two USB Type A ports that are labeled as turntable Deck 1 and Deck 2. Will these ports be for midi controllers, TT's with built in audio interfaces, or something even better? Is Rane currently working on a player? Only time will tell.

The final observation is regarding the dual USB ports on the rear of the unit. The TTM72 will have two soundcards built in. This makes it easier for two DJ's to mix simultaneousy, tag, or switch off when using Serato or RekordBox DJ.

We do have to mention that, after checking every possible Rane source, a proper press release has not come out yet regarding this mixer. Anything you may read or hear, before then, is purely speculation. With the DJ Expo coming up on August 14th, we are excited to find out more.
